I think I May Be An Oxymoron

Okay this is probably one of those postings that will get me in trouble or raise some kind of controversy but this certainly won't be the first time for me in this arena.

I am a Christian and also a Liberal. I also enjoy my occasional margaritas and I love Rock-N-Roll music. I am so weary of so many judgemental extremist right winged Christians walking around spewing forth their distorted interpretation of the bible . If I remember my bible (that is the parts of the bible that we have been allowed to read since the reign of King James)correctly it is God who is to judge and not us.

Oh and I know many of these people very well as I was raised basically southern Baptist. They spend Friday and Saturday night having their secret little pleasures such as their margaritas or favorite drink and then get all dressed up on Sunday and snootily walk into the Church feeling completely upright and way above us common folk. Oh and the best is when they all walk out together around to the side of the church to light up their cigarettes and have a smoke together. Trust me I have seen many a deacon of a church standing outside after the morning worship service enjoying his smoke.

And, don't even get me started on the t.v. evangelist. They have cast forth so much intolerance for other races, and faiths that they have nearly destroyed Christianity single handily. And, thanks to their lovely politics, well, we all know the state of affairs concerning America today and in part that is due to these extremist right winged Christians who seem to hate everyone but themselves.

I also do not believe that God has condemned everyone to hell simply because they follow another faith. The God I know and love simply is not that cruel and vicious. He is a loving God. We are his children. All of us are his children not just a select few. How much do you love your children. Well God's capacity for love is beyond our comprehesion and stronger than any human could ever feel or express.

The Jesus I read about in the bible spent his few short years here on this earth travelling and visiting with people of all faiths, and beliefs. Crimeny, his first miracle was turning water into wine so that the wedding party could continue on. So what is the big deal about occasionally enjoying a drink? And lest we forget he was crucified for daring to step outside of the norm and in fact in his time was considered a radical himself.

So as for this girl I choose being an oxymoron over being a hypocrite. I will continue to listen to my rock and roll, enjoy sharing a few drinks while sitting out on the front porch with my husband and I am definitely committed to my liberal views politically. So there it is. This is me and the real me. What is the old phrase "What you see is what you get?" well that's me.

"Life is too short to waste your time filled with malcontent for others that simply walk a different path than you."

Haha...you aren't an oxymoron, you just see things a lot more clearly than most! I am a conservative liberal, or maybe a liberal conservative...hehe:)

It's really tough to write anything about this type of subject without offending people. I don't judge anyone for their religious beliefs. I believe religion is good as long as it doesn't cause someone to pass judgment on others. I had certain ideas about the Muslim faith before I started blogging because of the stuff they show on American TV.

Now that I have met and become friends with many Muslims, I learned they are super nice, caring people. I learned that on my own through meeting these great people!

That is why I blog, to transcend all that separates humankind...so we can all come together!

Very good post Shinade, I think you should write more about this and know you have my respect for sharing!!!!!!!!

Oh thank you so very much Bobby. I must admit that I was a wee nervous about the post. For the very reason you mentioned. It is hard to state such things without offending people.

Perhaps I hold a different view because of my studies. Believe it or not when I first went back to college it was to become a Lutheran Pastor.

And, I too have met some of the most wonderful, caring and sharing people who follow the Muslim faith. And, I find that many of them feel exactly the same way we do about all of this extremism on both sides.

Thank you very much for comment Bobby. Your respect means a great deal to me.
Have a great day my friend,
Jackie

Shinade, You hit the nail on the head, Honey! This has come up in conversation with my husband several times in the last few years. We agree! Thank you for speaking up about something that gets so little discussion. Your boldness is refreshing! Well-said!

I think that we all fall short of the glory of God, and none of us are without sin. You can find this in one very great book!
The bible teaches us that we are not to judge. People claiming to be better than others, or more "christian-like" are not doing there fellow man justice. The true meaning of faith is accepting that as humans we are indeed powerless to control every aspect of out lives. By accepting this, and accepting the Lord into our hearts, a change happens. His guidance creates something wonderful, and something that shines for others to see. Why and how is that person so happy? One word ... Jesus.
He spent his time with the lost, the sinners, the common. Why? The love that envelopes hearts and spirit brings salvation.
To be judgemental, hateful, or condemning torwards others is not a religious perspective, but a personal one.
The true believer to me? ANYONE who asks forgiveness, and for guidance.
If you are an oxymoron, well I guess I am too :-)

Very well stated Eric. I truly appreciate the sentiment that you put into that comment. And I so agree with you. With The Lord in your heart all things are possible.

He has always stood by me and I fall short of His glory every single day of my life. But, I always know in my heart that he loves and protects me and in my quite moments spent with him in prayer I am always reassured of His true glory and love for all of us.

You are yet another that I dearly respect and your comment truly is appreciated and honored.
God Bless,
Jackie

Why do Christians hate rock and roll?

Personaly I don't like rap but I don't use religion to justify not liking it.

Shinade spoke up on January 8, 2008 5:45 PM

Oh my goodness Jo as a child growing up in the churches down here in the south we were taught that it was the devil's music.

I truly don't know why so many preach against it but I sure know that a lot of them listen it to it!!

Jackie

Namaste' Shinade! I generally am the type to simply not bother *going there* with anyone as my beliefs are mine and I respect all others in their choosing and have many friends from all backgrounds. I do admire you for not contradicting the religion and belief system you choose to follow. I don't care what belief system it may be, if you dishonor it by stating you are something or follow certain ways, and behind the curtains you don't...well, this is sad I believe. For the person too committing the dishonor, as they will never truly reach the enlightenment they may seek then. Also quick question for you :0) I work with youth at my ranch, I am wanting to know perhaps since you seem so good at getting things placed on your site any suggestions to place the amber alert symbol on my own site the little symbol and link ? sorry I am new to this bloggin site and am having a heck of a time trying to figure things out http://www.amberalert.gov/
metta.
