Dona Nobis Pacem
This is my third time to join in on this project headed by the most gracious Mimi of Mimi Writes, click on the link and get your own globe, if you too would like to join us. It's never too late!
We are a military family and bringing change and peace to the world is much more than just an ideological dream to us. It is also an exercise in selfishness.Bill, our son-in-law, is a veteran of Dessert Storm and has also done a tour in Iraq. He is on the roster at this very second slotted to be shipped over to the Mid East again. We have a nephew, a Marine, who is currently already at a base waiting to be shipped over to Afghanistan. So in our family as with millions of families all over the world we pray everyday for peace so our soldiers can stay at home.
This year I am especially moved to blog for world peace but my first concern this time, is for peace and unity here on our very own land in America. Until we, as a country, ourselves, can learn to come together and stop spreading hate and discontent on our very own shores then how we can we ever hope for true peace anywhere?
Our bible tells us to take the log out of our own eye before we attempt to remove the speck from our brother's. However, this has not been the case, here in America, for a long time now. Instead, in truth we are a divided country where money is our true ruler and is in the true leader of this country. It's a hard pill to swallow and many won't admit it, or honestly can't see it in themselves and unfortunately, for us as a country, it exists in far too many American's true inner self and their everyday actions, the way they really are, as opposed to how they perceive themselves!
But, money has proven since the beginning of recorded history to be one of the most successful tools ever to control the masses and insure that the majority of all citizens remain in the class they were born into. And, that very ugly monster is alive and thriving right here, everyday, in America, 'The land of the free', the home of the 'American Dream',! But, if we take a long hard look at ourselves, objectively as a country, we know these are not the real truths about America and what our country has become!
We have become a country, a so called Christian nation, whereby, due to politics, money and social standing at birth, good worthy wonderful people who walk as Christians forget about the true teachings and meanings of Jesus. Christians, who do to their own political beliefs, financial success, God given intelligence and ability, forget themselves and sit back in judgment, spreading discontent with cheap humor and jokes filled with prejudicial remarks. All done at the expense of countless millions, for whatever reason, who have not become a productive and successful person, according to their financial statement and not by the fabric of their being!!!
In fact, we are a hypocritical country. We blog and preach to the world about peace, helping the poor, sick and starving all over the globe. However, we can't come together in our own country and offer the very same help to our very own sick, poor and hungry. We go about our daily lives and make token gestures, but, when it comes right down to it, those that have do not share with those who do not have, we do not feed our homeless, hungry, and less fortunate. We instead, sit back and judge them according to our standards. After all, if I was able to do it then surely those other less fortunate people are merely lazy and want a free ride. So why should I extend a hand, spend my hard earned money, share in my blessings from God, with that obviously worthless lazy human being?
This is the reality of the real America. Yes, there are millions of us who dare to dream of a different America. But, we too now are judged. We are said to be unpatriotic because we dare dream of an America where all people really truly do have equal opportunity! Opportunity for things such as proper health care, a good education and an equal playing field in fighting for that piece of the American pie.
Well, the truth is, not all are born equal anywhere in the world. Not every single individual is or ever will be born with the same level of intelligence, talent and ability to succeed on their own, without help from those of us who were. Those who are fortunate enough, here in our country, to be blessed with intelligence, or, to be born into a good social standing to start with, way too often turn their heads and look the other way when less fortunate human beings are doing without the basic and most simplest things that every human being, no matter their circumstances, should be able to have.
At least, this what I was taught, as a child growing up as a Christian, attending church and Sunday School as a Baptist. This is what I was taught Christ and being Christian is really all about. Jesus is the one that says we are to help the poor and feed the hungry. It was Jesus who said the ones who have also have a duty to share their blessings and help those that do not have. He also did not make a distinction between who we should or shouldn't help. If people need help, who are sick, hungry, homeless, drunks, addicted to drugs, afflicted with a disability, then according to Jesus' true teachings it is our duty to do our best to help them. It is His duty to judge them!
So yes I blog today for world peace. But, until we can get it right on our own shores. Then please tell me why our soldiers fight and die everyday.? What good are we as a country if we have a cold heart at it's core? A country that even turns it's back every single day on the very soldiers who have risked it all to defend a dream, many of them, for whatever reason, will never ever get to share in!
God bless to one and all. I already know this post will not set well with many. But, it was lain upon my heart to speak the truth and expose the reality of the real America! The America that has become a country filled with self serving judgmental hypocrites! So I beg everyone to take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror. When was the last time you handed even a nickel to a person standing on a street corner, here in America, begging for a living? When was the last time you dug into your pockets, did without things you want, to give something to others less fortunate than yourselves that they need? These are the real questions and issues that need addressing long before we dare stand before the world and presume to be the model and standard all others should follow!
~As always from our home to yours we send love and peace to all!~

Well written and a great and personal contribution to this year BlogBlast for peace Jackie.
As a non American, I feel I should be careful not to interfere, but I give you credit for bringing up the subject.
Peace to you and yours :-)
What a beautiful Peace Globe and a lovely post.
Peace to you,
Sniffie and the Florida Furkids
pee ess - I know Ana did your blog. Do you know how to change headers and backgrounds? I can't figure it out.
Thanks!
Last year my peace globe stated that "without freedom, peace is just another word".
I agree with all of your values and beliefs. I guess the true disguise is in the veil of "intent" and what the real goal of our leaders entails. Placing too much trust in any party is dangerous.
Proof lies in the future.
As for peace and peace globes ... I think we all know that the world will not change in one day, but as others have pointed out, there are far more "people" than political leaders. It is so very important to voice our thoughts and opinions strongly. Today is wonderful in my eyes as bloggers from all corners of the globe unite, spread joy & love, and plant a solid base of peace to stand on. Mimi has been amazing in bringing us all together in one cause.
I think it is key to "practice" ideals, and not expect others to carry them out. As we all post today, lets do more than just write. Lets reach out, lets offer our hands in warmth. Let us be the example.
To have love and peace in our OWN hearts is where it all begins.
Peace, love, and lots of hugs from Minnesota
Jackie, I saw a blog yesterday at Sandi k's that expressed some of these same thoughts, what is going on with us, is more deep than we can put a finger on.
A government of the people, by the people and for the people, has sadly forgot who the people are.
And WE are the government, Not he other way around.
BIG BIG HUGS
Wow! Powerful post! You speak very wise words Jackie. I can't speak for America, as I'm from the UK, but it's much the same here.
We all think we can judge people and their situation. The truth is, we are not equipped to do that. I saw a TV programme recently about this very subject.
There was a woman who lived on benefits. She wasted it all away playing bingo so went without a lot of basic things. The first reaction is "Why give her benefits to gamble it all away?" Instead of judging her this woman investigating it realized she had a problem with boredom. She brought her a little PC and paid for her broadband. That woman now spends her time online and doesn't gamble her benefits away!
The problem is never easy to spot, We must look deeper before judging others.
have a great day!
Hi Jackie! Nice to know all these! peace to all!
mwuah!
Very well said Jackie. Speaking your mind is perfectly fine.
Have a terrific day honey. Big hug. :)
Amen. May we be given peace.
Beautiful image and wonderful post, Jackie!
Thank you all so very very much and know that I too also agree with every comment made above.
First I am amazed always amazed with this project. The dedication Mimi displays in heading this program is a fine example of an American actually working hard for change!
I think most every single blogger that takes part in this project every 6 months does so with the dream of world peace.
In no way Eric did I mean to trivialize Mimi's effort and this project.
I also am not talking about political parties. I am talking about all of us, including myself.
I too need to do more actual giving. We don't have much but we do have a great deal more than so many people.
I am simply saying that we Americans really do need to come together. Stop fighting amongst ourselves, stop labeling and judging each other and simply come together again, know matter what politics, faith, or lifestyle and work on our very serious problems here at home.
This is not a post about political parties. It is a post addressing the fact that we, all of us, here at home, really need to work seriously at making change happen here.
We are a great nation, a rich nation, but we are also a country whereby, as I said in the post, that has turned it's back on it's own problems for way too long now.
Not political problems but problems with our own selves, I am not excluding myself either!
It's been a long time since I sacrificed anything to truly reach out and help someone else.
I would never degrade Mimi's dedication and hard work. She is a fantastic example of someone here is our country that is actually giving and fighting for change.
Now if a couple more million Americans, could come together as we do on Blogblast day, every single day, maintain that the spirit of this day everyday. Then my goodness, just think how much we could improve our society.
That is the true interpretation of what I am trying to say with this post. Yes, of course, I want world peace. But, I also believe we as a nation, could contribute so much more throughout the world to this effort, if we start in our own backyard first.
And Mimi and Blogblast day is a good example of all us taking a day and doing a little yard clean up. Now, if we could just keep this unity going every single day then real change would come. then we, as a country and also each individual would only be the better for it!!
Peace to all,
Jackie
" Now, if we could just keep this unity going every single day then real change would come "
I love that! ... Speedy luvs you 2
Olla Jackie.
Great entry jackie.
I think most people have the tendency of judging others from our own lifestyle and personal experiences, instead of trying to understand why they are different form us. A bit of understanding can actually goes a long way.
One thing for sure, Shinade is a warm hearted blogger (at least to me - well that was my first impression i get when you first time commented on RnR and it is still is.)
Happy blogging and have a great weekend.
While I agree people need to care and do for each other; I couldn't help but think how judgmental your post is. You say people shouldn't be judgmental; but yet your post is indeed judgmental.
I do not believe we are a cold heartless country. I see people give of themselves each and everyday. I do believe the good caring and kind people far and away out numbered those that are stingy.
One of your commentors said it's important to do what you can and not worry about the others. Not in those exact words perhaps; but they are 200% correct.
You are correct when you say people aren't born equal, not here; not anywhere in the world. Nor have they ever been. AND I don't believe that's the intent. If we were all equal, we would not have the struggles. I believe we've been given struggles in order to achieve, in order to become stronger people. I also don't believe anyone is promised an equal life, what the American Dream is about is the equal chance. It is up to the individual to make something of that chance. Some folks can't see they have a chance at that, and that's sad; and they're the folks we all need to help, to guide, and do for.
I know many people who's stories I could tell you that prove The American Dream is truly alive and well. I also know many stories of good people doing for others day after day; some maybe Christian, some may be of other faiths. I never feel it's important to know what faith they follow; it is enough for me to know they are good decent giving people.
The news may not be filled with the good deeds I see daily, it's hard to show what's in someone's heart on TV; but it is there.
As a child, one of my favorite movies was Polyanna. There's a line in the movie I still find to be of value, "if you look for the bad in people, you will surely find it." Instead of looking for the bad, I choose to look for the good, and you know what...I find it everywhere. I find it daily, I find it in young, in old, in men, in women, in black, in white, in rich, and in poor.
Sandy
Beautifully stated Jackie. Another excellent post. Hugs my friend
Fantastic post and I go agree with you Jackie. We are all so ready to judge and impose our beliefs on everyone else yet we cannot even take care of our own. Powerful and very true. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for these words from your heart. I think that it falls to us as individuals to continue to speak and act as best we can, despite those who would try to silence us.
Peace to you and yours.
This is so true and if only we could ever have world peace we must never give up the dream..
Great post..
